For professional remediators

Polish & validate a tagged PDF

Drop an already-tagged PDF. We apply the mechanical preflight fixups — artifacting, list labels, link descriptions, note IDs — then run the veraPDF PDF/UA-1 validator and hand back the polished file and its report.

What gets polished

Every fixup is mechanical and safe — it corrects PDF structure and metadata without changing how your document looks.

Applied to every document

  • Artifacted background content

Untagged page content is marked as an artifact, so assistive tech skips decoration instead of reading it as content.

  • List bullet labels

Unordered-list markers are normalized to a proper bullet character so they’re announced consistently.

  • Link descriptions

Link annotations missing a text description get a /Contents entry, sourced from their structure or destination URL.

  • Footnote & endnote IDs

Every /Note element is given a unique ID and registered in the ID tree so references resolve.

  • Table header scopes

Header cells receive a /Scope (row or column) so data cells map to the correct headers.

  • Nested table cells

Improperly nested table cells are demoted so per-row column counts line up.

Added only when you ask for it

  • Copyright

A copyright statement is written to the document’s XMP metadata (dc:rights) — no visible change to the page.

  • Remediation credit

An optional “remediated by / on” record is embedded in the metadata for provenance.

Then validated

The polished bytes are re-scored with a structural accessibility scorer and the veraPDF PDF/UA-1 reference validator. You get back the polished PDF and its full validation report.

What we never do

Polish never stamps a PDF/UA-1 conformance claim your document hasn’t earned, and it never alters your reading order, alt text, or visual layout. Conformance is decided by the validator, not asserted by us. Judgment calls stay yours.
